   Proposal Description:
   While it has been known a higher level of education is protective against cognitive decline, the relationship between education and neuropathology in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) has not been well studied. There are limited studies that suggest either a lower education level is associated with a higher neuropathology burden, especially vascular disease, or education and neuropathology burden are unrelated in certain ADRD spectrum diseases. In this study, we will assess education attainment and multifactorial neuropathology in the ADRD spectrum to determine if education protects against development of various neurodegenerative pathologies. For standardization of neuropathological analysis, we will request data only from decedents evaluated under the National Institute on Aging-Alzheimer's Association (NIA-AA) criteria.
